Obour Blames Akufo Addo’s Absence in Asante Akim South

Asante Akim South NPP parliamentary aspirant, Obour, has attributed a purported decline in votes during the 2020 General Election to President Akufo Addo’s alleged failure to visit the constituency.

Obour claimed on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen program that while he and his team campaigned extensively, there was no rally with the Presidential candidate in attendance. He contrasted this with two visits by his opponent, John Mahama, to Obogu and Juaso, insinuating that this disparity resulted in reduced voter support.

During the broadcast on Friday, 2024, Obour contended that the absence of President Akufo Addo at campaign events in the constituency impacted voter enthusiasm. However, a subsequent investigation revealed that Obour’s claims were unfounded. The President did, in fact, visit Asante Akim South on September 27, 2020. During this visit, he inspected key projects such as the Krofa to Brentuo road construction, Krofa to Asankare Road project, and the pig and fertilizer factories at Asankare under the 1D1F initiative. Additionally, President Akufo Addo commissioned a 12-unit classroom block at Juaso SHS, culminating in a grand durbar of Chiefs and people.

In light of these verified facts, Obour’s allegations of a lack of presidential engagement in the constituency appear to be inaccuracies. The President’s substantive visit and involvement in local projects suggest a commitment to the development and welfare of Asante Akim South, dispelling any notions of neglect.

Obour’s statement: “We all went to campaign in the constituency, but we never had a rally where the Presidential candidate came to our Constituency to charge up the masses. John Mahama came to our constituency two times; he came to Obogu and Juaso,” alleges Obour, attributing alleged vote reduction in the constituency to Akufo Addo’s snub of the constituency.
