Close friend and confidant of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Alexander Afenyo-Markin MP for Effutu has been revealed to have played a key role in Kennedy Agyapong’s soft speech and cooperation during the just-ended NPP Presidential Primaries.

During a results declaration at the Accra Sports Stadium on 4th November 2023 after the NPP Presidential Primaries, many Ghanaians suspected Kennedy Agyapong to be difficult after a heated campaign.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia obtained 118,210 votes representing 61.47%, beating his main contender Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, a Member of Parliament for Assin Central who obtained 71,996 votes representing 37.41%.

Some suggested Kennedy Agyapong should break away from the NPP and join Alan Kyeremateng.

However MyNewsGh.com is reliably informed powerful figures and elders in the party spoke to the Deputy Majority leader Afenyo Markin ahead of the results declaration to help “soften” Kennedy Agyapong.

Afenyo Markin was seen on stage at the Accra Sports Stadium with his best friend giving some directions and suggestions before and during the speech of Kennedy Agyapong.

Afenyo Markin has for many years been a trusted ally of Kennedy Agyapong with the latter winning Effutu Constituency.

Transferred Showdown

In his concessionary address, Mr Agyapong pledged his full support to Dr Bawumia and the entire New Patriotic Party to break the eight-year cycle.

He said his “Showdown” threat has now been transferred to the NDC.

He said his pledge stems from the transparent and peaceful nature of the election.

“I believe the party has been fair and transparent, and the only thing I have always been preaching is that this election is fair and my grassroots people have spoken. I pledge my support that we are going to work tirelessly to break the eight.”
