Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for Fomena in the Ashanti Region, Akwasi Nti has diffused plans by the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the political party to prevent the running mate from coming from the Ashanti Region.

He says the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the NPP has plans to contest for the National Chairmanship of the NPP and is doing everything to ensure that no major position is given to an Ashanti to make his dream a reality.

Akwasi Nti who was speaking on Kumasi-based Angel FM, indicated that stories about Wontumi and the late John Kumah being poisoned leading to the death of the late Deputy Finance Minister, are false, and a well-thought-out plan to tarnish the image of a leading figure in the Ashanti region is being considered for the position.

“Wontumi is diabolic, and I can tell you that whatever that guy in his studio said is a well-rehearsed lie. They are doing all this because of NAPO. The general secretary of the party is from Ashanti Region, and he wants to be the national chairman, so if the running mate is from Ashanti, it will be difficult for him to be the national chairman. Wontumi knows that if he contests in the Ashanti region again, he will lose,” he said.

Akwasi Nti alleged that Wontumi has done the same in the past with Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, saying “When I was with Wontumi, he did the same with Kwabena Agyei Agyapong to control Ashanti Region. This is because if the general secretary is from the Ashanti Region and the running mate is from the same region, they won’t agree for the chairman to be from the same region. So someone died in the North and Kwabena Agyei Agyapong had to take the fall for it.”

Akwasi Nti indicated that the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP will not have his way this time around, as they intend to make life a living hell if he decides to touch the Energy Minister, who is in pole position to become running mate to the flagbearer.

He indicated that they have shared videos of Oheneba’s claims with the Inspector General of Police and have called for his arrest. However, if the police fail to effect the arrest, they will do that and present him for investigation.
