Retired Commissioner of Police (COP) Nathan Kofi Boakye was seen leading John Mahama as Asanteman held a durbar of chiefs to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Sagrenti War. 

The Sagrenti War was fought between the Asantes and the British Colonial Army in 1874.

The commemorative durbar, dubbed “Kuntunkuni”, which is to commemorate the ravages of the war, had John Mahama and other political figures in attendance.

Kofi Boakye was seen in black leading the entourage of John Mahama to the event grounds.

Earlier, the retired police chief was seen in the campaign of the National Democratic Congress (NDC bid to wrest power from the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The police chief who has for long been accused of ties with the NDC while in uniform was seen at the NDC 24-hour Economy Sensitization Walk in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Kofi Boakye joined the former President John Dramani Mahama and NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah in Kumasi to campaign.

Speculation is also mounting that Boakye may be chosen as the running mate for NDC presidential candidate John Mahama in the upcoming December 2024 polls.
