The GaDangme Council has issued a rejoinder addressing statements made by Professor Audrey Gadzekpor and JoyNews Online, requesting a correction and an apology for associating homosexuality with the Ga and Nzema cultures.
In the rejoinder issued on Monday, the GaDangme Council expressed concern about Professor Gadzekpor’s statements suggesting that sociologists have documented homosexuality as part of the Ga and Nzema cultures.
The Council strongly emphasized that the practices of a few individuals within a community should not be misconstrued as reflective of the entire culture.
The Council clarified that the presence of homosexual individuals in various communities across Ghana does not imply that such practices are integral to the broader culture of those communities.
The council stressed that labeling the Ga and Nzema people as practitioners of homosexuality unfairly undermines their rich traditions and customs.
The rejoinder urged the correction of the YouTube video’s sensational title, removing any reference to Ga and Nzema culture, as it was only a small part of a more extensive discussion.
Additionally, the GaDangme Council called for an apology from both Professor Audrey Gadzekpor and JoyNews Online for what they deemed an “unfair denigration of our culture and people.”
This plea aims to prevent potential discrimination against individuals within these communities based on their sexual orientation and to ensure that accurate information is disseminated regarding the cultural practices of the Ga and Nzema people.
