The internal contest within the camp of the ruling New Patriotic Party took an unpatriotic and unacceptable direction with the verbal accusations and insinuations from the Vice President, HE Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia against his main contender Hon Alan Kyeremanten.
The Vice President, as part of his usual ‘unprovoked attacks’, verbally ‘bruised the image’ of his main contender, Hon Alan Kyerematen, portraying the former Trade and Industry Minister as a divisive character.
In his address to a section of NPP delegates in Greater Accra, the Vice President was seen ‘casting insinuations on the person’ of Hon Alan Kyerematen with the excuse that he Alhaji Bawumia was the only unifier in the elephant fraternity.
His assertion was premised on the fact that Hon Kofi Dzemasi, former Minister of Chieftaincy Affairs and a former campaign manager of Hon. Kyerematen, as a well as Hon Fredrick Opare Ansah, former MP for Suhum and a former Director of Operations for Hon Kyerematen, have now joined his camp.
The defection of the two personalities, the Vice-President averred, made him a ‘unifier’ who could work with all in the party.
Dr Alhaji Bawumia’s statement has drawn the attention of some political experts who see it as injurious to the general welfare of the party pending general elections.
The political experts, who spoke on condition of anonymity, urged Dr Alhaji Bawumia to stop ‘attacking’ the ‘brand and person’ of his other rivals.
Both Alan Kyerematen and Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, among others, will be heading to the polls on November 4, 2023.
