You will sleep at Nsawam, whether you like it or not—Captain Smart

Renowned Ghanaian journalist, Captain Smart, has launched a scathing attack on the management of Ghana’s finances under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo and former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

His criticism centers around the government’s handling of a $13.5 billion loan, with Captain Smart accusing the leaders of mismanaging the funds without providing a satisfactory explanation of how they were utilized.

Speaking in a recent broadcast, Captain Smart expressed his disbelief over the loan’s disbursement, saying, “If I were the President of Ghana and you gave me $10 billion, I would give you 25 factories.” He then directly challenged both Akufo-Addo and Ofori-Atta, asking, “So, where is the money?” His comments underscore the growing concern among citizens about the lack of transparency regarding the use of the funds and the government’s failure to invest in tangible projects that would benefit the nation.

Captain Smart’s remarks reflect a broader dissatisfaction with the economic management of the current administration. The $13.5 billion loan, which was secured by the government, was expected to support economic development and infrastructure projects. However, many critics, including Captain Smart, argue that the loan has not been effectively channeled into productive investments that would uplift the Ghanaian economy.

In a further critique, Captain Smart alleged that even members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) had turned against Ofori-Atta, suggesting that lawmakers in the party had rejected the former Finance Minister. He believes this is a sign that Ofori-Atta’s approach to managing the economy has not been well received, even by those within his own party, due to concerns about his priorities and his ability to protect the country’s financial interests.

Captain Smart also warned those responsible for what he describes as the mismanagement of the country’s finances, stating, “You will sleep at Nsawam, whether you like it or not.” This cryptic comment suggests that he believes there will be consequences for those who have been involved in financial mismanagement, and that accountability will eventually be enforced.
