Wife aids her husband to murder her boyfriend & uses his body to claim GHS 473K insurance money
In a crime that reads like a Hollywood thriller, Sibusiso Mahlangu and his wife, Lerato, masterminded a chilling plot that saw them fake his death, murder an unsuspecting lover, and cash in on a fraudulent insurance claim.
A Deadly Affair Turns Fatal
The twisted tale began when Lerato engaged in an affair with Sithebe, the man who would later become the victim of this gruesome deception.
Under the guise of a romantic meeting, she lured him to her home, where her husband, Sibusiso Mahlangu, was waiting to commit the heinous crime.
In a brutal turn of events, Mahlangu killed Sithebe, a move which was planned to assume a new identity and profit from the crime.
Watching His Own “Funeral”
In a sinister twist, Mahlangu watched on Facebook as his family unknowingly buried Sithebe, believing it was him who had died.
Lerato, playing her role to perfection, identified the body as that of her husband just to secure a fraudulent death certificate in his name.
The R575,000 Insurance Scam
With the paperwork in place, Lerato wasted no time in claiming life insurance benefits.
She received a payout of R575,000 which is equivalent to 473,837.30 which the couple used to fund their new lives.
Mahlangu personally pocketed R150,000 and splurged R200,000 on a car.
To avoid detection, the couple relocated to Mpumalanga, travelling only at night to evade authorities.
Chilling Request to His Children
Even in hiding, Mahlangu frequently contacted his daughters.
However, in a disturbing demand, he allegedly instructed them to refer to him as “Angel” instead of “Daddy,” further deepening the eerie nature of the case.
The Truth Unraveled
The elaborate deception finally crumbled on Tuesday when Mahlangu confessed to the brutal murder of Sithebe.
By Wednesday, Lerato detailed in court how they had spent the insurance payout, sealing their fate in what has now become one of the most shocking crime stories in recent memory.
