Why 42% Of NPP Voters May Not Vote according to Global Info Analytics latest research

A recent poll by Global InfoAnalytics has indicated a significant drop in voter support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region following the appointment of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The poll, conducted after Dr. Opoku Prempeh, widely known as ‘NAPO,’ was nominated, revealed a major decline in six key constituencies in Greater Accra: Tema Central, Ablekuma West, Ablekuma North, Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso West Wuogon, and Ledzokuku.

Findings show that 42% of NPP voters expressed they would not support the party due to NAPO’s nomination, while 49% of voters indicated continued commitment to the party. Mussa Dankwa, the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, shared these results on Channel One TV’s ‘Citiuation Room,’ describing the poll’s outcomes as a challenge for the NPP that needs immediate attention.

Floating voters, who play a pivotal role in Ghana’s election results, also displayed a strong reaction to NAPO’s candidacy. The poll revealed that 74% of these voters are less likely to vote for the NPP with NAPO as the running mate, and only 9% would still consider voting for the party.

“If you look at this, in Greater Accra, those who said they’ll be influenced to vote for the NPP, 49% of the NPP said they’ll vote for the party, 42% NPP voters said they’ll not be influenced in the Greater Accra,” Dankwa elaborated. “When it comes to the floating voters, 9% said they’ll be influenced and 74% said they’ll not be influenced, that is worrying. If you don’t make a good impression among the floating voters, you are done.”

The poll’s findings present a pressing issue for the NPP as they prepare for the 2024 general elections. The party will need to address the concerns highlighted by the poll to regain and secure voter confidence in the Greater Accra Region.
