Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has urged the agitated youth of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) who are reportedly attacking state institutions and seizing properties to cease their actions immediately. He warned that if they are arrested, they will not receive any support from the party. Ablakwa condemned their behavior as lawless and not in line with the values of the NDC leader, John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing that such conduct is unacceptable.
In an interview on TV3 on Tuesday, December 10, Ablakwa made it clear that the NDC does not condone the destruction of state property or any form of violence. “If you are arrested, don’t expect any of us to defend you, because what you have done is not something we have authorized,” he said. “Our leader is a man of peace, and we must uphold the law even in times of celebration.” He stressed that such behavior has been recurring after every election, but it must come to an end.
The comments came after a video surfaced showing some youth attempting to forcibly open the gates of a government facility. This incident occurred despite earlier calls from Sammy Gyamfi, the NDC’s National Communications Officer, urging supporters to celebrate their electoral success in a responsible and peaceful manner. Gyamfi had warned against violence following the deaths of two NDC supporters in Akomadan, calling for restraint.
“We must celebrate responsibly, without resorting to vandalism or looting,” Gyamfi stated. “As a law-abiding party, we must show maturity and respect for the law. Celebrate, but do so in a way that reflects our values.” He also reiterated that supporters should avoid any attacks on state institutions and instead focus on peaceful celebrations.
