Nana Akomea, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on religious leaders, particularly prophets, to exercise caution in their public declarations as reported by Ghana Web on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.
Akomea’s remarks come amid the recent surge of conflicting prophecies regarding the 2024 elections, particularly concerning former President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a statement on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” show, Akomea expressed his concern about the contradictory prophecies being made by some religious leaders, questioning how the same God could be divided over the two major presidential contenders.
He said, “How can God be divided between which of these two candidates will win the election?”
This came after Prophet Isaac Owusu-Bempah of the Glorious Word Power Ministry made headlines with a prophecy declaring that God had “given back the nation to Mahama” due to his “good heart.”
This prophecy, however, was met with backlash from supporters of the ruling NPP, who pointed to Owusu-Bempah’s earlier statements.
In the past, Owusu-Bempah had famously said that even if the NDC brought Mahama back as their candidate a thousand times, he would lose a thousand times.
In an interview with Paul Adom-Otchere on Good Evening Ghana, he had firmly stated, “God has rejected Mahama outright.”
Akomea, who serves as the Deputy Chairman of Bawumia’s campaign team, did not shy away from addressing this inconsistency.
He questioned the shift in Owusu-Bempah’s stance, asking, “What has changed that today the same prophet who claimed Mahama could never ascend to the presidential throne says something different?”
He urged religious figures like Owusu-Bempah to be mindful of their words, stressing that their actions could lead to a loss of respect from the public.
Akomea concluded by calling on them to “be patient” and prioritize the peace of the upcoming elections over divisive prophecies.
