Bawku Central Member of Parliament (MP) Mahama Ayariga has cautioned the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) against any form of complacency in the decisive forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
He mentioned that the NDC will not win the polls on a silver platter, especially in the Northern part of the country.
Historically, the Northern Regions have fallen for the opposition NDC in both presidential and parliamentary elections. But with the emergence of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the political space of the country, the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have gained ground in the Northern part of the country.
Speaking to his constituents during a campaign activity, Mahama Ayariga noted that with Bawumia as the flagbearer of the governing NPP, the race in the North will be tighter.
The Vice President comes from the Northern part of the country and his message seems to be resonating well with the people.
In a video shared on the Facebook page of Accra-based GHone TV, the NDC lawmaker called on his constituents to work harder to counter the growing popularity of the flagbearer of the NPP in the Northern Regions which are traditionally considered the stronghold of the largest opposition party.
The Northern Regions which be crucial in deciding whether the NDC remains in opposition or comes back to power. The call from Mahama Ayariga mirrors the growing discontent among the NDC following the popularity of Bawumia in these regions.
