Presidential candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, is alleging that evidence now abounds to substantiate its outfit’s claim that the December elections will be manipulated.
He says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is colluding with the Electoral Commission (EC) to skew the process in favour of the NPP.
Mahama’s allegations come amid a video in circulation which contains an audio indicating the EC has recruited some 65 members from the NPP into its temporary staff for the December polls in the Gomoa East constituency of the Central region.
According to Mahama, the card bearing members of the party were presented to the EC by a Member of Parliament and some executives of the party, which he says affirms the NDC’s long-held insinuation that the EC and the government are planning to steal the people’s verdict.
Speaking at a mini rally in the Sekondi constituency of the Western region as part of his three-day tour to the region, the former President alleged that same persons have also been fished out in the Juaboso constituency who are NPP persons recruited into the election management body.
He called on the gathering and all members of the NDC to be extra vigilant at the polls, assuring them that the party wouldn’t allow itself to be cheated just as it has no intentions of doing same.
He, however, urged the EC to expunge the said persons from its list when they are found to ensure the process becomes free and fair.
“We all have to be vigilant and keenly observe the polls because we can vote well but some thieves will rig it. I’ve seen a video from Gomoa East which contains a recording showing that one NPP MP and his executives submitted 65 party members to an EC official who added them.
“So if such a person is the one at the polling station, do you think he will allow the polls to be fair? That’s why we have always been saying that there is a collusion between the EC and the NPP to rig the elections and we have that evidence from Gomoa East. We expect the EC to replace those 65 persons when they are fished out.
“It is same in the Juaboso constituency where some NPP members with party cards have been fished out from the EC officials. We in the NDC are very alert this and just as we won’t cheat anyone, we won’t allow anybody to cheat us too,” he stated.
