Some NPP supporters in Kumasi are pushing back against the idea of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia running for president again in 2028. According to them, his defeat in the 2024 election was too significant to ignore, and they believe the party needs a stronger candidate to stand a chance in the next election.
One of their major concerns is the margin of his loss. They argue that compared to past defeats suffered by former Presidents Kufuor, the late Mills, and even the current President, Dr. Bawumia’s loss was particularly alarming. In their view, this proves that he is not the right candidate to lead the NPP into the next election.
They also highlight the fact that his own home region did not rally behind him in the 2024 elections. To them, this suggests that even his own people do not see him as the right choice for president.
Given these concerns, they are calling on him to step aside and make it clear that he will not contest in 2028. They believe the party should start looking for a new leader who can secure victory in the next election.
