It has now emerged that the loss is set to have financial repercussions on Vinicius Junior. The Brazilian star was reportedly set for a hefty bonus from his club as part of their deal.
Brazilian outlet Globo reports that the 24-year-old had a $1.1 million bonus deal (approximately 141 million Kenya shillings) with Real Madrid if he won the Ballon d’Or.
Vinicius had promised his teammates gifts
Spanish outlet Relevo adds that Vinicius had promised his teammates gifts to celebrate his win. The report claims he had a huge party on Sunday evening and had further organised for each of his teammates to get a Rolex watch.
How much Ballon d’Or winners get paid
As TUKO.co.ke had earlier reported, it is important to note that Ballon d’Or winners do not get paid by organisers.
This means that Rodri or any other winners before him did not receive any money. However, the rewards in terms of endorsement deals, club bonuses and brand deals that come with being the owner of the Golden Ball are huge.
