Ernest Owusu Bempah, the former General Manager of Ghana Gas, has made notable claims regarding his tenure and the circumstances surrounding his appointment and potential departure. He stated that his appointment was facilitated by President Akufo-Addo, acknowledging that his position is tied to the President’s tenure: “Akufo-Addo was the one who hired us, so obviously, if he is going, we will also go.”
Owusu Bempah emphasized his commitment to transparency and accountability, asserting that he has never engaged in corrupt practices. “Since I assumed the role of General Manager at Ghana Gas, I have never signed a contract that could be perceived as questionable, nor have I accepted a government-issued vehicle for personal use,” he declared. He confidently claimed, “I am not corrupt; my actions and decisions have always been guided by a strong sense of integrity.”
He also recounted an incident at an energy conference where he was offered $3,000 but declined the offer. Owusu Bempah stated that he drove his own vehicle and purchased the furniture in his office with his own funds, affirming, “Apart from my salary, I did not receive any additional monies or benefits from anyone.” He reiterated his commitment to maintaining the highest standards of transparency and accountability in his role.
