Afa Abdul Rahman Madaha, a popular Mallam at Kakpayili near Bamvim, a suburb of Tamale in the Northern Region, who was arrested by the Ghana police for allegedly killing some two children, has sued a Tamale-based Journalist and Five(5) others for defamation.
One Baba, Wulana of Kakpayili, Saani Mohammed Lukman of Zaa Tv, Zaa TV, Christopher Amoako and Media General were among those sued.
According to him, the defendants and the institutions falsely dragged his reputation into the mud.
Afa Abdul Rahman Madaha through his lawyer Sylvester Isang is seeking an order of the Court compelling the Defendants to write a letter personally addressed to the Plaintiff admitting that their statements were actuated by malice and falsehood and give their express commitment never again to spew such falsehoods, libellous and slanderous defamatory remarks on the person of the Plaintiff.
Again they are seeking an order of the court compelling the Defendants to pay as damages for the defamation of Plaintiff: 1st and 2nd Defendants an amount of FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND GHANA CEDIS (GHS
500,000.00) Jointly and Severally an amount of GHS 2,000,000.00 against the 3rd and 4th Defendants Jointly and Severally an amount of GHS 2,000,000.00 against the 5th and 6th Defendants as well as Costs.
It will be recalled that Afa Abdul Rahman Madaha, house was burnt down by angry youth in Tamale for allegedly killing some children.
Body parts of the victims were found in an abandoned vehicle parked near the house of the suspect which residents described as ritual killing resulting in the burning of the house.
Afa Abdul Rahman Madaha was subsequently arrested and later granted bail while police launched an investigation into the matter.
However, after investigations, unconfirmed information indicated that an autopsy conducted on the two children revealed that they died of suffocation after being trapped in the abandoned vehicle.
