Kwadwo Asante, popularly known as Boafo, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Suhum, has declared his intention to contest the seat as an independent candidate.

This comes after he lost the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary to Frank Asiedu Bekoe, also known as Protozoa.

Despite his defeat, many NPP party faithful in the constituency urged him to run as an independent candidate.

In response, top party officials, including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, attempted to persuade him to reconsider.

However, on Sunday, September 1, Boafo declared his decision to run as an independent candidate, ending months of speculation.

Addressing a large gathering of supporters after a health walk at the Suhum Amponsah Market, he stated that he was heeding the call of his constituents to continue his developmental work in the area.
