Former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has charged President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to end the menace of illegal mining.

According to Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, it behooves President Akufo-Addo to help Ghana avert the wrath of God due to the destruction caused to the environment through galamsey activities.

Frimpong-Boateng warns as he charges Akufo-Addo to end galamsey

“There is one thing I know very well which I want you to note, that is, disobedience and destruction of nature will not be endured for too long. Soon, the holy and righteous God of nature, who rules over all creations and the universe, will destroy those who violate His creation,” he cautioned.

The former Minister, who was addressing a durbar to mark the 2024 Yam Festival celebration of the people of the Asogli State in Ho on Saturday, October 5, said the fight against galamsey goes to the heart of Ghana’s survival and thus urged the President to take action.

“I wish to call on our President of the Republic to heed the call of citizens, civil society organizations, professional, academic, research institutions, and trade unions to bring an end to the destruction of our forests, farmlands, water bodies, and the associated biodiversity. The very existence and future of Ghana are at stake, and Mr. President, I know you care,” he stated.

He also decried the current state of affairs in the country, noting that some state institutions have been weaponized for the purpose of intimidating and silencing critical voices to advance corruption.
