A daring satellite dish installer at Kasoa, who hacked the Facebook and e-mail accounts of a police officer and through this managed to deceive nine friends of the officer into giving him various amounts of money totaling Ghs6,800.00 has been grabbed by the police to stand criminal trial.
Emmanuel Dawson is said to have hacked the Facebook and e-mail accounts of Police Chief Inspector Ben Punalar of the Osu District Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and through that began a chat with nine friends of the officer in his phone contact.
Dawson managed to convince these unsuspecting individuals to wire various sums of money to him.
He had told them that he had traveled outside of Accra, to Elubo and needed money to send to the wife, which he was going to pay back when he returned to Accra.
Dawson’s cover got blown when he intercepted a message from a phone technician, telling the police officer that his phone he sent to him to be fixed, was ready and directed the repairer to look for Okada (commercial motorbike rider) and take the phone to his wife at Kasoa.
The repairer became suspicious, having known the police officer for some time now and he was personally aware that the police officer’s wife is not living at Kasoa.
He quickly went to tell the officer and Dawson was tricked to meet the repair at the Kasoa police station, where he was arrested.
He has already appeared before the Kaneshie District Court Two criminally charged with stealing and unauthorized access to Facebook and e-mail accounts.
