Suspected armed robbers have attacked the Sehwi Asafo Police Station in the Sehwi Wiawso Municipality, making away with an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and other crucial police equipment.
According to reports, the break-in occurred late last night, with the robbers allegedly scaling an iron-gated window to gain access to the armoury.
They managed to steal the high-powered rifle along with several rounds of ammunition before fleeing the scene in the Western North Region.
The assailants also looted other police property, with initial investigations suggesting they were highly organised and possibly familiar with the station’s security layout.
At the time of the attack, officers on duty were reportedly caught off guard. No casualties were recorded.
Following the attack on the police station, the suspected armed robbers targeted the residence of a Catholic priest. Images from the scene suggest the assailants fired shots during their presence, but no casualties were reported.
The police have since launched an intensive investigation to track down the perpetrators, with additional security measures being implemented at other police stations in the region.
Meanwhile, the inspector in charge of the Sehwi Asafo Police Station has been interdicted pending further investigations.
