Rev. Abraham Lamptey, General Overseer of Believers House of Worship International, has expressed disappointment in a Graphic Showbiz publication about comments he made at a press soiree.
The respected man of God called the published story unethical because it did not accurately represent what he said.
According to Graphic Showbiz, the man of God stated that Christian events should be free.
They also stated that the man of God stated that charging gate fees was appropriate. “It doesn’t matter the artiste billed on the programme. Whether an A-list Gospel act or not, patrons should not pay to attend the event. I don’t have a problem with others charging fees, but if the event is meant to encounter God for all the wonderful things He has done for us, then I think admission should be free.
“As I said, you cannot take money if the event is meant to encounter God. I cannot put any price tag on God. Therefore, asking patrons to pay will be wrong. I have done my Art of Worship for 16 years and it is always free,” he reportedly said.
However, he expressed disappointment in an interview with Daniel Dadson on Rainbow Radio 92.4Fm (UK).
According to him, the answer was twisted, which he considers unprofessional.
The man of God said that he hosted a press soiree ahead of the Church’s annual worship programme, and a blogger inquired about his thoughts on charging gate fees for gospel events.
The man of God stated emphatically that if he [Rev. Abraham] were to organise a worship service, he would not charge admission fees.
However, if it were a concert, the organisers would be required to collect gate fees in order to pay bills.
”I didn’t want to speak, but I had to because my comments had been twisted. I was asked what I thought about charging entrance fees for Christian programmes. I stated that if I am organising a concert, I will charge a gate fee, but if I am organising a worship programme, it will be free. The worship service is not a concert. So, if I am organising a worship programme, I will not charge. This is what I said. If it’s a concert, you can bring money to cover the venue, lights, musicians, and other expenses. This is what I said, and the Graphic showbiz twisted it.
But it is okay. That is the kind of thing we have now in our society. You say something, and someone will twist your comments. I was emphatic about what I said, and I don’t know why my comments were twisted.”
