Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Freedom, leads the New Force, an emerging political movement. He recently expressed frustration over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to register his group as a political party. Despite following all required procedures, the New Force has only received a provisional certificate, not enough to compete in the upcoming general elections.

Mr. Bediako reported that the New Force Movement submitted all necessary documents to the EC on September 12th, 2023. By law, the EC should respond within seven days, but they haven’t issued a final approval. Due to this delay, Mr. Bediako has decided to run for president as an independent candidate. He believes this approach will give him enough time to campaign and engage with members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Mr. Bediako accused the elections management organization of mishandling the registration process. “We submitted all the forms and requirements needed to form a party and contribute to the development of this country,” he told reporters. He emphasized that waiting three months for approval would leave less than two months to campaign effectively.

Determined to change the political landscape dominated by the NDC and the NPP since 1992, Mr. Bediako believes he can shift the focus to the people’s needs if elected to the highest executive office.

Mr. Bediako’s New Force aims to bring fresh perspectives and prioritize the needs of the Ghanaian people over the entrenched interests of the traditional parties. He believes that his independent candidacy will allow him to build a broad coalition of support and effectively challenge the political status quo.

He highlighted the extensive preparations and efforts his team has made to ensure compliance with the legal requirements for registering a political party. Despite these efforts, the EC’s provisional certification has left his movement in limbo, unable to fully participate in the electoral process.

Bediako’s campaign strategy involves extensive grassroots mobilization, reaching out to voters across the country, and engaging directly with communities to understand and address their concerns. He is confident that his message of change and progress will resonate with a significant portion of the electorate who are dissatisfied with the current political system.

The business magnate remains optimistic about his chances, citing his track record of success in the private sector as evidence of his ability to lead and bring about meaningful change. He calls on his supporters and all Ghanaians who desire a break from the past to join him in his quest to create a more inclusive and prosperous nation.

In the meantime, Mr. Bediako continues to push for the official registration of the New Force as a political party, holding out hope that the EC will eventually grant full approval. He remains committed to his vision of transforming Ghana’s political landscape, regardless of the challenges he faces along the way.
