President John Dramani Mahama has reassured the public that his complete cabinet will be announced within the next two weeks. This statement comes after concerns raised by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who criticized the President’s handling of ministerial appointments, calling the process disorganized.
Speaking at a special National Muslim prayer and thanksgiving service at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, on January 10, Mahama addressed these concerns. He urged members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid actions that could tarnish the image of the government. Mahama confirmed that the process of assembling the government was progressing, with appointments for ministers and other officials set to follow soon.
“We are currently forming the government, and the necessary ministers will be appointed. I can confidently say that the full cabinet will be in place within the next 14 days,” Mahama declared. He reassured citizens that once the ministers were in position, the public would be able to approach them with any issues. The President also called for patience and restraint, acknowledging that many had made comparisons to the National Patriotic Party’s (NPP) approach when they assumed office in 2017.
Mahama reminded his supporters that the NPP was voted out due to their mistakes and warned against repeating those errors. He urged the NDC to operate more systematically and with greater organization to avoid similar pitfalls. Mahama emphasized the need for the party to learn from past experiences and avoid rushing through governance, ensuring a more structured approach.
