President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Johnson Asiama to serve as Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State
Ernest Addison, the current governor, requested to go on leave before his retirement on 31 March 2025, which prompted the nomination.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s acting spokesperson, signed the statement that made the announcement.
Asiama, who previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017, holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK. He has extensive experience in monetary policy, financial stability regulation, and economic research.
Having worked at the central bank for over 23 years, Asiama is expected to bring a wealth of expertise to the role. His track record includes implementing sound monetary policies, stabilising exchange rates, and promoting economic growth in Ghana.
