President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said his government will not allow anybody to rig the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections this December.
He has assured Ghanaians that the democratic systems will work to ensure nobody imposes a leader on the citizenry against the will of the majority.
The President says he does not subscribe to the view of stealing a verdict of the people, giving an assurance that his administration will ensure the composition of a free and fair election comes together for the upcoming polls.
Speaking at the Jubilee House at the Apostolic Nuncio of Ghana’s courtesy call following a four year duty tour, the President indicated that whoever leads a nation should be the will of the people and not anyone imposed on them by any group or person.
“We do not subscribe to the view that a group of people can manipulate the will of the people and impose a leader on them, we think that the choice of leader of a country should be the unreserved, unqualified exercise of the sovereign will by the population and the country,” he assured.
According to the President, Ghana wants to maintain its reputation to the globe as a beacon of democracy, having undergone eight successful elections in the Fourth Republic.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that the upcoming elections is devoid of favouritism for any faction.
“We want to maintain the reputation we have as a democratic and open society and we are going to do everything possible to make sure that elections on the 7th of December are free, fair and credible,” the President added.
