A tragic incident occurred in Eastern Uganda on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024, when Pastor John Michael Ekamu of the Agule Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) lost his life after being kicked by a worshipper during a prayer session.
The 52-year-old pastor was attempting to exorcise demons from a 30-year-old man, Simon Ogwang, when the unthinkable happened.
Ogwang had been brought to the pastor by his parents, who believed that he was under the influence of evil spirits.
During the exorcism, Ogwang suddenly became violent and kicked the pastor, causing serious injuries.
Although Pastor Ekamu initially continued with the service, he later collapsed on Christmas morning while preparing for a special service.
Despite efforts to take him to the hospital, the pastor refused, stating, “the devil has been defeated.” Unfortunately, his condition worsened, and he was rushed to Serere Health Center IV. An X-ray revealed cuts to his pancreas, which ultimately led to his death.
The news of Pastor Ekamu’s death has shocked the local community, and his passing has left many in mourning.
His commitment to his work as a preacher was well-known, and his sudden death has raised questions about the dangers faced by religious leaders while performing their duties.
After the incident, Simon Ogwang was arrested by the police and is currently being held while investigations are underway.
Police in the region are trying to understand what led to the attack on the pastor.
Local authorities have confirmed the arrest and are urging the public to remain calm as they investigate the circumstances surrounding Pastor Ekamu’s tragic death.
In a related story, the faithful in Accra also experienced grief when Pastor Peterson Kwame of Jesus Compassion Ministry was found dead on December 17, 2024, under unclear circumstances.
Peter, who had been struggling with personal issues, had traveled to his hometown in Accra City before his death.
