
A painter working on the new Bank of Ghana building has been arrested for allegedly stealing copper cables valued at over GH¢1 million. The suspect, Ahmed Mohammed Lawal, was apprehended after surveillance cameras captured his involvement in the theft.
Lawal appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing. Two other suspects connected to the case are currently at large.
The theft was reported on February 16, 2025. Investigations revealed that the stolen items, including quantities of lc x 240 square copper cables and lc x 300 square copper cables, were sold at Kwame Nkrumah Circle. Lawal allegedly received GH¢2,000 from the sale.
Lawal has been remanded into police custody as investigations continue.
