A tragic accident on the Kumasi-Obuasi Highway claimed the lives of 13 people on the morning of Monday, October 14, 2024. The VIP bus, which was traveling from Kumasi to Enchi, veered off the road and plunged into a ditch.

The bus, with registration number ER 2445-11, was reportedly overloaded, as it was carrying passengers from another broken-down bus on the same route.

Sources indicated that an argument over the overloading between the driver and the passengers may have distracted the driver, contributing to the accident.

The victims include seven males, five females, and a child. The injured passengers are currently receiving medical care at a nearby facility, while the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.

This incident adds to a string of recent road accidents in the region, including two fatal truck accidents on Wednesday, October 10, which resulted in the death of a driver’s mate and injuries to three others.

The police are continuing their inquiries into the events leading up to these tragedies, and safety concerns remain high as the public continues to grapple with the rising number of road accidents.
