Nyantakyi slaps Kwaku Yeboah, Despite Company, Ringier, ADPU Advertiser with GH₵10m suit

A former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, has initiated a defamation suit against four respondents, including Dan Kwaku Yeboah, a popular sports journalist.

The case, filed at the High Court of Justice in Accra, alleges that statements made by the respondents have damaged his reputation.  

The writ of summons names the defendants as: Dan Kwaku Yeboah (Peace FM), Despite Company Limited, ADPU Advertiser & Publisher Solutions Limited and Ringier Ghana Limited.

According to the legal document, Nyantakyi contends that comments made by the defendants in connection to his tenure as GFA President were false, malicious, and calculated to tarnish his image.  

Key allegations  

The plaintiff alleges that publications and broadcasts by the defendants implied criminal misconduct on his part, including corruption and mismanagement within the Ghanaian football fraternity. 

Nyantakyi’s legal team argues that these statements were made without basis, leading to significant reputational damage.  

Relief sought 

Nyantakyi is seeking a retraction of the alleged defamatory statements; an unqualified apology from the defendants; GH₵10million monetary compensation and a perpetual injunction restraining the defendants from publishing or causing to be published defamatory statements about the plaintiff..

The High Court has admitted the suit for hearing. The presiding judge, Justice Ali Baba Abature, has directed the defendants to respond within the stipulated legal timeframe.
