NPP submits list of people they want to be Returning Officers in election 2024 to EC – NDC alleges

20 Mar

Director for Elections for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Omane Boamah has alleged that the New Patriotic Party has sent a list of persons they want to be Returning Officers and Deputy Returning Officers for the 2024 elections.

According to him, this list constitutes the bulk of the applicants the EC shortlisted for the interviews, which will start this week.

He has used the opportunity to call on staff and the leadership of the Electoral Commission who are not in bed with the government to ensure they resist this diabolic move being undertaken by some of their leaders.

Dr Omane Boamah used the opportunity to call for a thorough investigation of the stolen voter registration kit.

The Electoral Commission’s Voters Registration Kits (that were stolen) and ongoing recruitment of Returning Officers

Thanks to our unimpeachable and patriotic sources, the NDC MPs in Parliament confirmed yesterday that some Voters Registration kits of the Electoral Commission were stolen.

Prior to yesterday’s parliamentary engagement with the EC, this news was nonexistent to the Ghanaian voter and to the media.

We thank our patriotic unimpeachable sources for their continuous support in ensuring we work towards a free, fair and transparent elections while saving the EC from itself from NPP’s illicit infiltration and influence.

But, the stolen EC Voters Registration kits is not the only burning issue.

We also have information (which may be denied by the EC) that NPP submitted a list of NPP’s preferred Returning Officers and Deputy Returning Officers that the EC must recruit.

We are further informed that the NPP’s list of preferred names constitutes the bulk of the applicants the EC shortlisted for the interviews, which will start this week.

Whereas not everyone at the EC and its top echelons are aware and are involved/complicit in this sabotage of Ghana’s democracy to favour NPP, we urge SOME members of the Commission and the EC staff to resist this dubious temptation which at the appropriate time (soon) will embarass the once reputable Electoral Commission of Ghana and some of its members.

On the back of the confirmed stolen Voters Registration kits ahead of the May 7 voters registration exercise, let me add that a thorough investigation  is needed immediately to determine the extent of compromise of the EC’s IT system and Department

We shall continue to prepare even as we watch the EC and all actors with eagle eyes.
