According to Adom Online, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has leveled serious accusations against the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), alleging that the latter is recruiting individuals to rig the upcoming 2024 general elections and undermine the peace of the country. The claims were made by the NPP National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, during a press conference on Wednesday.
Nana B stated that the NDC’s recruitment efforts were being particularly focused on areas traditionally known as strongholds of the NPP. However, he refrained from specifying any particular regions or districts where these activities were taking place. Despite these claims, Nana B assured the public that the NPP remains vigilant and is taking all necessary steps to protect the integrity of the election.
“The NPP has worked tirelessly to communicate its message to the Ghanaian people, and we are confident that our flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, will emerge victorious on December 7,” Nana B asserted. He also expressed confidence that any attempts to disrupt the election or manipulate the results would not succeed, highlighting the party’s preparedness to deal with any challenges to the electoral process.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between the two major political parties over alleged electoral manipulation. On Tuesday, the NDC Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, made a separate but related allegation, claiming that President Akufo-Addo had instructed the General Officer Commanding the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, Brigadier-General Michael Opoku, to rig the elections in the Ashanti Region in favor of the NPP.
Gyamfi went further to suggest that Brigadier-General Opoku had been promised the position of Chief of Defence Staff should the NPP win the election. The NDC also alleged that the officer was allegedly involved in training NPP operatives at the Asutuare military camp, with the aim of using them to cause electoral disruptions.
