Development Economist and Professor at the Department of Applied Economics of the University for Development Studies(UDS) Michael Ayamga-Adongo has warned that even though the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has a good chance of winning the 2024 General Elections, the party is engaged in acts that could result in it losing to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if it does not act swiftly to reverse the trend.
Prof Michael Ayamga-Adongo cited the deliberate alienation of some NDC members – making some NDC members feel they do not belong to the party – as one of the complacent acts of some party members that can lead to the party losing the 2024 General Elections.
“There are some things that they (NDC) can do that can make them lose it. And they are doing some of them and I think they ought to be very careful. They are behaving as if they are already in power. And they have begun alienating some people,” he said in an interview on Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM recently.
Prof Ayamga-Adongo believes that if the party can do away with its negative tendencies and pitch its campaign message appropriately, especially in the harsh economic situation, it will win resoundingly as predicted by several survey reports.
He advised the NDC to ensure that conversations on the bad economic conditions are sustained to boost their chances of winning the elections.
“Anytime people are not talking about the economy, it makes the NPP have hope [ of giving the NDC a run for their money]. And that’s why I think they need to get their messaging right and to stay on point,” he pointed out.
Even though the National Democratic Congress has been predicted to win the General Elections, Prof Ayamga-Adongo stressed that behaving as if they were already in power will lead to their defeat.
