A leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) can no longer lay claim to the Ashanti Region as its stronghold.
The governing party has over the years tagged the Ashanti Region as its stronghold as majority of the party’s votes during general elections have always come from the area.
The NPP Flagbearer for the 2024 Presidential election, Dr. Mahamudu who is the incumbent Vice President is currently on a three-day tour in the Ashanti Region as part of his campaign where he is galvanizing support from the inhabitants ahead of the upcoming December 7, 2024, elections.
But Solomon Owusu commenting on the Vice President’s tour on Ghana Kasa on Kasapa 102.5FM said the NPP has witnessed a significant decline in its influence within the Ashanti Region.
He asserted that the Alan Kyerematen led Movement for Change has taken over the Ashanti region with many residents being drawn to the party each passing day.
“Ashanti Region is no more the stronghold of the NPP, the Movement for Change holds majority of the people of Ashanti Region. The NPP has told the whole world that the Ashanti Region is its stronghold, so if the party is having its campaign there, why should people be bused to the venue to show that indeed the area is the party’s stronghold. The NPP has resorted to this move because it feels threatened, the party knows that currently for every ten people in the Ashanti Region, seven of them supports the Movement for Change, quote me anywhere.
“Go to the streets and the people will tell you that their businesses have been destroyed under this government. The people of Ashanti Region are mainly farmers and traders, but now the exchange rate is going up while the interest rate is down destroying businesses. So, what makes the NPP believe that the Ashanti Region will continue to support them” Solomon Owusu asked?
