A 30- year old husband, Moturayo Olaniyi, has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife, Olajumoke Olaniyi, 25, over little misunderstanding in Lagos.
The incident was confirmed by the Lagos state command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement made available Blueprint in Lagos.
He said the incident occurred on October 4, 2024 at about 1pm.
He said a distress call was received at Ikorodu police division that a newly wedded couple, were allegedly engaged in a domestic scuffle in their room at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe, Ikorodu area of the state.
“In the process, the husband reportedly stabbed the wife to death, locked her in the room and set her ablaze, while he inflicted wound on himself.
“Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the scene where the fire was put out, while the lifeless body of the wife met lying on the floor with wound on her abdominal part and the husband was rescued with injury rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated and discharged, then taking to police custody.
“Upon interrogation and preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the suspect stabbed his wife during an altercation between them and gave himself the mild stab,” Hundeyin stated.
Meanwhile, the corpse has been deposited at Ikorodu General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
He however, said investigations is still ongoing to know what actually caused the death of the wife.
