Man Disguised As Beggar At Kumas Central Mosque Arrested With Offensive Weapons and Drugs

26 Mar

The growing menace of illicit begging in Zongo has taken a dangerous turn, fueling crime and threatening community safety. What appears to be ordinary begging is actually a front for illegal activities, including drug and arms trade, prostitution, child labor, and human trafficking.

Renowned journalist Yussif Abdul Ganiyu Inshola exposed this alarming situation through a radio program, sparking urgent discussions among Zongo chiefs, assembly members, opinion leaders, and journalists. His revelations led to a high-stakes meeting where leaders made a firm decision: the beggars must leave Sabon Zongo to restore order.

Hon. Bawa, the assembly member for Sabon Zongo, and the chairman of the local watchdog committee admitted they are overwhelmed. “These beggars are not just seeking alms—they are fueling crime, even we have retrieved illicit Drugs and effensive weapons from them ” they stated.

Disturbing pictures from the community confirm these claims, showing offensive weapons, and drugs linked to the illicit activities. The evidence is undeniable.

Yussif Abdul Ganiyu Inshola’s investigative work has brought the truth to light, despite criticism from some quarters. But the facts speak for themselves. Sabon Zongo can no longer be a haven for crime, and with the community now taking action, change is on the horizon.

Many individuals and civil society organisations have condemned the issues of begging around the Kumasi Central Mosque due to the dangers it poses on the residents using the mosque. Meanwhile, no action has been taken to curb the menace. This incident is one of the many arrests that has been made this year.
