The government has announced a significant increase in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) allowance for both teaching and non-teaching staff in pre-tertiary schools across Ghana, as per Ghana Web on Sunday, September 29, 2024.
According to the Ministry of Education, professional teachers will now receive an annual CPD allowance of GHS2,400, up from the previous GHS1,200.
Non-professional teachers, who previously received GHS800, will now benefit from an increased allowance of GHS1,800.
The CPD allowance, introduced in 2020, aims to support educators in upgrading their skills through ongoing training programs.
This increase underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the professional growth of educators and improving learning outcomes in schools.
Speaking on the announcement, Kwasi Kwarteng, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, highlighted the importance of the allowance in boosting the quality of education.
“The government’s decision to increase the CPD allowance reflects our commitment to supporting the continuous professional development of both professional and non-professional teachers.
“This will enable them to remain competitive and enhance the quality of education delivery across the country,” he stated.
The new allowance rates are effective immediately, offering financial support for teachers as they pursue further training and professional development.
The initiative is seen as a key step in equipping educators with the latest teaching methodologies and skills necessary to transform education in Ghana.
