Machete-brandishing: Check Mahama’s reply to Akuffo Addo

The former President John Mahama has said President Akufo-Addo supervised the mayhem during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election some few years ago.

President Akufo-Addo has strongly criticized the actions of members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) brandishing machetes around the office premises of NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

Last Thursday, the youth wing of NDC stormed the Cantonments office of the former President, armed and seemingly prepared for a confrontation with the pro-government political group, FixingTheCountry under the guise of a clean up exercise.

The fixing the country group, led by Ernest Owusu Bempah, had previously issued a notice to the Police to picket at the former President’s office over the Airbus scandal.

Commenting on President Akufo-Addo criticism of the NDC Youth Wing, Mr. Mahama indicated that the sitting President never showed sympathy to citizens who died during the 2020 election.

“This is a bit rich, coming from a President who superintended the mayhem at Ayawaso West Wuogon and has not had a word of sympathy for the families of our 8 compatriots who died from state-sponsored violence in the 2020 elections,” Mr. Mahama disclosed in a tweet.

The former President had earlier commended the Greater Accra Youth Wing for their show of solidarity at his office with their clean-up exercise.

“HE John Dramani Mahama wishes to convey his gratitude and appreciation to members of the public and particularly the Greater Accra Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for the love, support, and commitment to defending his strong and incorruptible character.

“Ayekoo to the young people including women who converged at the Cantonments office on Thursday to solidarise with John Mahama in the face of what was a misguided attempt by elements sponsored by the leadership of the NPP to picket around the office,” aide to the former President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said in a statement.
