Kwesi Pratt Sends A Warning To The NDC

Kwesi Pratt, the Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid focusing on prosecuting members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if they emerge victorious in the 2024 general elections. Pratt, speaking on Peace FM’s Kokrokoo show on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, emphasized that pursuing legal action against NPP officials would not address the country’s deeper economic challenges.

Pratt expressed his concern that even if prominent members of the Akufo-Addo administration were arrested, it would do little to alleviate the financial difficulties facing ordinary Ghanaians. He questioned the efficacy of such actions, highlighting the fact that economic issues, such as soaring prices and currency depreciation, would remain unaddressed. He specifically pointed out, “If we arrest people and send them to jail, but the price of kenkey rises from five cedis to ten, or the dollar increases from 17 cedis to 25, what have we achieved?”

The veteran journalist emphasized that the NDC’s priority should be tackling the economic hardships that Ghanaians are enduring, rather than engaging in punitive measures. According to Pratt, real solutions to the nation’s economic problems should take precedence, as these issues are far more urgent than any political vendetta. He warned the NDC against getting caught up in a witch-hunt against NPP members and urged them to remain focused on improving the lives of citizens.

Pratt further noted that the NPP will be in opposition after the 2024 elections, making it clear that chasing individual figures from the previous government will not solve the pressing issues at hand. For him, the priority should be to provide relief for the suffering of Ghanaians.
