The chiefs and elders of Kwawu Obo have given the Member of Parliament for the Abetifi constituency, who also serves as the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a one-month ultimatum to appear at their palace to address concerns over farmland disputes.
At the center of the controversy is a large piece of farmland where unidentified security personnel are allegedly preventing farmers from engaging in their farming activities.
The farmers suspect the land has been sold to Dr. Acheampong by the chiefs, a claim the chiefs strongly deny.
Speaking at a press conference in Kwawu Obo, Okofo Ampadu Kyeamire, the Kontihene of the town, expressed the chiefs’ distress over the situation.
He explained that, the farmers are threatening the chiefs, accusing them of selling the land.
The Kontihene appealed to Dr. Acheampong to clarify the situation and dispel the allegations to ease tensions in the community.
“The chiefs are furious because of the farmers’ perception, and we urge the Agric Minister to address this issue within one month. If he fails to do so, we will advise ourselves,” he stated.
The ultimatum reflects growing frustration among the chiefs, elders, and farmers, with the community demanding immediate resolution to the dispute.
