KNIFE HORROR Screaming mum begged ‘help me’ while hiding in neighbour’s garden before being knifed to death in triple stabbing

21 Aug

A TERRIFIED mum allegedly begged for her life as she was brutally knifed to death while hiding in a neighbour’s garden, during a triple stabbing.

The woman, 43, screaming “Help me, help me please” had desperately tried to flee her attacker after he had allegedly knifed a man in the street outside a home.

He also allegedly repeatedly stabbed a 17-year-old girl, who has been left fighting for life, along with a 64-year-old man.

Shocked locals told of the triple horror on Sunday night which has rocked their close knit community in Gorton on the outskirts of Manchester.

The mother-of-four, 43, a carer, has been named locally as Alberta Obinim.

Keelan Sands told how he was alerted to the mayhem after hearing “piercing screaming” as he was watching TV in bed.

He said: “It was about 11pm and I heard this continuous piercing screaming outside.

“I looked out of the window and saw blue sirens flashing everywhere and there was a man lying bloodied in the street.

“There were two police officers trying to keep him alive, saying ‘Stay with us.’

“We later heard that [she] had been killed. It is a shocking thing to have happened.

“She has tried to escape to raise the alarm when [a man] was attacked and had run across the road to a neighbour’s house.

“She was calling: ‘Help me, help me please!’

“’[The teenage girl] also tried to run away but was stabbed several times.

“The man then tried to escape in his red car but luckily police stopped him and he arrested at the scene.”

Keelan added: “We are hoping and praying that the girl and her dad pull through. They were both critically injured.”

He said residents’ “hearts go out” to the mum, who was known for her “kindness” and “religious spirit.”

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A cordon remains at the scene in Barnard Road and a neighbouring street with three forensic tents visible.

A 22-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of murder, remains in custody.

Last night, family friend, Ibrahim Abu, led tributes to the beloved mum-of-four Ms Obinim.

He told the Manchester Evening News she was a member of the city’s Ghanaian community and attended Blessed Baptist Temple church.

“She was a very nice lady,” Mr Abu said. “I knew her very well. We all go to church together.

“She always talked to people and was a mother to everyone. She was always laughing.”

Another family friend described Mrs Obinim as a “powerful and inspirational woman”.

In a heart-wrenching tribute she said: “She was amazing, she was lovely. I literally spoke to her just last week. She was so kind and caring. It’s just a proper shock. She’s got a lovely family.”

She added: “I worked with her quite often and everyone I spoke to at work is in shock. It doesn’t seem real.”

The emotional friend explained how the mum-of-four was “well loved” by her colleagues and “will be missed”.

“She was a laugh, she was just funny. I would non stop laugh with her. The people we used to care for loved her. It was non stop laughing with her, she was amazing,” she added.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Adrian Girtchen said: “We can feel the shock waves that this incident has sent through the local community, who either witnessed this attack, or woke this morning to hear the tragic news.

“Many of you may know the family, and our thoughts and wishes remain with them and everyone who has been affected.

“We have additional officers in the area who are there to support you and provide a strong and visible presence.

“If you have any concerns, or you need someone to speak to in confidence, please do so to one of our many officers who are there.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their support and understanding whilst we continue to carry out enquires at the scene.

“This is not something we take for granted, and we will continue to do all we can do support the family.”

“We continue to appeal for any information; we would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident to please come forward.

“We are also interested in speaking to anyone who was in the surrounding area near to Barnard Road at around 11pm last night.
