A research conducted by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development-Ghana (CDD-Ghana) has shown how three major Assemblies in the country have performed abysmally in terms of developing their various localities.
Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), and Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) are the three assemblies the research focused.
The research according to CDD-Ghana focused on elements like Social Services, Environmental Services, Economic Services, Economic Infrastructure, Local Government and Social Inclusion, and Safety Security and Disaster Management.
The research also looked into how urbanization is affecting the lives of Ghanaian citizens especially those in the cities like Kumasi, Tamale and Accra.
Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) which topped the ranking made it with a mark of 41.0% which is below average. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) had an overall score of 39.6% at the second while the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) was third with 34.2%.
Mr Gilfred Asiamah, Research Analyst with the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD) speaking to the media at the launch of the report “Ghana Cities Monitor 2023” stated that the findings from the research show that, the various authorities across the country have to improve on their activities to help citizens.
The launch which was held and the Golden Bean Hotel in Kumasi was attended by major stakeholders in education, security service, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDCE), the disabled, and officers from the Environmental agency among others.
