n a revealing statement shared with Ghanaweb, former New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator, Atta Akyea, has claimed that Ghanaians would be astounded if they saw the reports detailing the actions of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), which were presented to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Atta Akyea suggested that while Dr. Dampare had successfully concealed his true nature from the public eye, his actions have now been brought to light. He drew a sharp distinction between reputation and character, asserting that while reputation can be fabricated or propped up, character cannot be hidden and will inevitably surface.
“There is a world of difference between reputation and character. You can pay good money to prop up your reputation so the world will believe you are the one who was crucified on the cross. The rented press are good at inflating reputation. Those who are superficial in orientation may even worship reputation, but character cannot hide; it’s like a pregnancy, and it will ultimately show,” Atta Akyea wrote.

The former legislator hinted at the existence of a dossier on Dr. Dampare that was placed on President Akufo-Addo’s desk, claiming that the contents of the report would shock the public. “If you know the dossier on Dampare which was placed on the table of President Akufo-Addo, you will be shocked. Why he was romancing such evil,” he added.
Further elaborating on the situation, Atta Akyea also accused leading figures in the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of protecting Dr. Dampare from being removed from office. He specifically named figures like Alban Bagbin and Dominic Aduna Bingab Nitiwul Agalga, suggesting that they were part of a cabal that was determined to shield the former IGP from any consequences.
Atta Akyea argued that President John Dramani Mahama’s decision to dismiss Dr. Dampare was a prudent one, contending that Mahama had displayed common sense in removing someone who had been disloyal to his previous appointor, President Akufo-Addo. “Why was NDC, pre-election, comfortable with Akufo-Addo’s appointee? Why were Bagbin, Agalga, and the cabal hell-bent on protecting the IGP?” Akyea questioned.
