Speaking in an interview, the Asawase MP stated that the decision to keep the identity of the NPP MP confidential was deliberate and final. “I will send it to my grave. The promise I made to the person remains sacred, and I will never break it,” he declared.

Muntaka’s revelation about an NPP MP defying party lines to support Bagbin sparked heated debates when it first came to light. The election of Bagbin, a member of the NDC, as Speaker of the 8th Parliament was a historic moment, as it marked the first time in Ghana’s democratic history that a Speaker from the opposition party had been elected.

Despite numerous attempts by the public and political analysts to uncover the MP’s identity, Muntaka has remained steadfast, citing the need to protect the trust and confidence of the individual involved.

He also highlighted the significance of the event, describing it as a testament to the importance of cooperation and bipartisanship in governance. “What happened that day should remind us that politics is not always about division; sometimes, it’s about making the right decision for the country,” Muntaka said.

His comments have reignited discussions about the events leading to Bagbin’s election and the role of behind-the-scenes negotiations in Ghana’s parliamentary politics.
