Business Man and Politician Akwasi Adai Odike has taken a swipe on President Nana Akuffo Addo on the Election of MMDCES. The appointment of MMDCEs has taken the President about nine months to be appointed and this took a tool on most of the District and Metropolitan Assemblies and this situation has delayed the Assemblies in developing their areas.
According to Akwasi Adai Odike, Ghana does not belong to President Nana Akuffo Addo and he cannot determine where Ghanaians should direct their votes to. Speaking on Nhyira FM Political show dubbed “Kukurantumi” on Saturday, 2nd October, 2021 he revealed that when Nana Addo wanted to create the New Regions, he invited all the political parties at Jubilee House which he was present of that meeting and they discussed about changing the Assembly concept where the President will always appoint the MMDCEs but rather an election has to be conducted but will not be on Partisan basis in which they all agreed to.
Expressing his amazement, he betrayed Nana Addo by saying that was not what they all agreed to at the meeting but all that he heard in the news was that Nana Addo had taken a decision on a Referendum on the election of MMDCEs and it should be partisan.
When he heard this news on air he said looking at the powers that the President is enjoying already how can Ghanaians add this to powers to him again. So he and other political party members commenced making a lot of noise about it and the President had to withdraw after Notice of Poll which in the History of Ghana has not happened before and that members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (N.D.C.) has disappointed him.
On bribery and corruption which goes on at the District and Metropolitan Assemblies, he suggested that when the election of MMDCEs is made Nonpartisan the Member of Parliament (MP) should be made the head of the constituency who will control all the resources because he has been voted into office by the people and if he mismanages the finances of the Assembly the he is voted out.
Concluding he suggested the election of Members of Parliament should also be made Nonpartisan because voting on partisan line does not bring development because when the Government brings out a bad policy which will not be good for the people of the country and since the MP was voted on party basis he will vote to support a bad policy but if the MP is in Parliament on a Neutral line they will think very well before they vote.
