In an interview with GH One TV, one of the people who were arrested during the “Stop Galamsey Now” protests brought to the public attention what landed him behind bars. Listening to the reason why he was sent to Nsawam prison for almost 14 days, one cannot help but wonder why his arrest happened in the first place.

Emmanuel Arthur is a commercial bus conductor who is popularly known as “trotro mate” in the country. He claims that during the stop galamsey protests, he went to the bus station, but upon seeing the enthusiasm of the protestors, he shouted “choo boi.”. “I just said ‘Choo Boi’ and I was arrested by eight police officers at 37,” he said.

Well, for those who do not understand the term, it is mostly used by Ghanaians to encourage people to rise up. It is basically said to give a group of people the vigour in ensuing a task.

The bus conductor made it clear that he didn’t even know what triggered him to say that, but unfortunately for him, the police came for him right after saying that. “They arrested me, and eight policemen took me to their head office,” he said.

Emmanuel added that he told the policemen that he wasn’t part of the protesters but a bus conductor, but they wouldn’t listen. This incident is quite sad upon deepening it down. To watch the video, click on the link below;
