The immediate past National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has expressed his undying gratitude to the flagbearer of the party, former President John Dramani Mahama. Speaking in a video from his thanksgiving service which he shared on Facebook on Thursday, August 29, 2024, Ofosu-Ampofo indicated that but for the former president and his brother, Ibrahim Mahama’s intervention, he would not have been able to pay for a surgery he had abroad.
He said that Mahama and his family did not only support him with a ‘colossal’ amount of money, but the former president led the fundraising effort to ensure that he got all the money he needed for the surgery. “I want to put on record the support of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for what he did for me.
On my hospital bed, I called him and said, ‘Your Excellency, I’m in trouble.’ When I was going (for the treatment), I went and discussed it with him. And we were thinking that with some $30,000 that surgery would be done. So, he gave me the support to be able to move. “When I went and the bills were coming, I called him and said, ‘It is not easy oo.’ He said, ‘Chairman, relax. I will be your fundraiser.’ What President Mahama and his family, especially his brother Ibrahim, the amount of money they raised to support me was very colossal.
He (Mahama) said, ‘Chairman, if you have a friend that you want me to talk to, I’m your fundraiser, so call me then I call them.’ The magic was working,” he said. The former NDC National Chairman also expressed his gratitude to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and the leadership of the party for their support. “I also want to thank most sincerely the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament. The Right Honourable A.S.K. Bagbin, for his support and my party leadership for their support, which has enabled me to go through all that I have gone through. I want to thank the Almighty God once again.”
