Asante Kotoko secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nsoatreman FC in their outstanding Matchday 2 fixture of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League on Wednesday afternoon at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.
The match, initially postponed due to Nsoatreman’s participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, saw a goalless first half. However, Kotoko broke the deadlock shortly after the break when Elvis Kyei Baffour found the back of the net in the 47th minute.
Despite dominating much of the game, the Porcupine Warriors were unable to extend their lead. The match took a dramatic turn when Nsoatreman’s Daniel Amoo received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 78th minute, reducing his side to 10 men.
Kotoko held on to their lead, with the victory lifting them to second place on the league table with 8 points from four games. Nsoatreman, on the other hand, remains in 15th place with just 3 points.
In another outstanding fixture, defending champions FC Samartex drew 1-1 with Bibiani Gold Stars at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. Emmanuel Mamah gave Samartex the lead in the 22nd minute, but Kelvin Oppong equalized for Gold Stars in the 75th minute.
Matchday 5 of the Ghana Premier League is set to kick off this weekend at various venues across the country.
