Families of the two former students of Achimota School who died in a hit-and-run have disclosed that the driver responsible for the fatal accident has been arrested.

Davida Asante Boateng and Lilian Akorli were both killed in a hit-and-run on the Achimota Highway on their way back from their former school after attending a programme.

Eyewitnesses had recounted that the driver failed to stop after hitting the victims, leaving bystanders to rush them to the hospital. They arrived at the medical facility around 12:02 am.

According to the family, the arrest, which took place on March 7, followed a police chase on the night of the incident.

The past students’ association of the school, Old Achimotan Association (OAA), announced the passing of the two young ladies on Saturday, March 08, 2025.

The Association had indicated that the ladies were members of the 2024 year group.

In a statement issued by the OAA 2024 year group Saturday, March 08, it said the two young ladies, Davida and Lilian, were returning to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), after attending the alma mater’s Annual Bonfire Celebration.

Whilst crossing the Achimota Highway, they were struck down by a black Toyota Corolla whose driver sped off after knocking them down.

One of the victims, according to the release, gave up her life 4 hours after being rushed to the hospital, whilst the other followed suit later on Saturday morning.

The Association has extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and and assured its continuous support in honouring the memories of the young ladies.
