As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) begins to regroup following its loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections, discussions about the party’s future leadership are already gaining traction. Amidst this backdrop, the Central Region Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has issued a strong warning to the NPP leadership, cautioning against sidelining Kennedy Agyapong as the party’s 2028 presidential candidate.
In an exclusive interview, the NADMO boss passionately endorsed Agyapong, describing him as the NPP’s best hope for victory in the next elections. He highlighted Agyapong’s long-standing commitment and contributions to the party, arguing that his leadership would resonate with the grassroots and energize the base.
“Kennedy Agyapong has been with the NPP since 1992, and he has worked tirelessly for this party,” the NADMO boss stated. “Some claim he has benefited from party contracts, but unlike others who use such funds for personal luxury, Kennedy Agyapong has consistently supported the less fortunate within the party.”
The remarks underscore a growing divide within the party. While some factions back Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, for another attempt, others are rallying behind Agyapong as the leader who can bring the party back to power.
The NADMO boss also stressed the need for fairness and transparency in the selection of the next flagbearer, warning of serious consequences if Agyapong is overlooked. “If they cheat Kennedy Agyapong again in 2028, the party will face backlash. A betrayal of Kennedy Agyapong is a betrayal of the struggling members of this party,” he declared.
As the NPP prepares for the 2028 elections, the choice of flagbearer will be pivotal. The party faces the challenge of uniting its members while addressing the concerns of its grassroots. Whether the leadership will heed the call to rally behind Kennedy Agyapong or pursue a different path remains uncertain. The decision is likely to shape the party’s trajectory for years to come.
